Yamaha Installation Instructions for 2006-2016 Yamaha FJR1300A/AE

1. We recommend that you cover the gas tank and left and right fairing with a towel to avoid scratches. It is not necessary to remove any of the controls from the handlebars at this time.

2. Using a 2.5mm allen wrench, remove the two beauty covers that cover the handlebar mounting hardware.

3. Before removing the mounting hardware, it is necessary to cut the factory metal wire looms to remove the cables and hydraulic lines from the looms. We have found it to be much easier to cut the looms than to disconnect the cables and hydraulic lines as you will not re-use the wire loom assembly. Please refer to photo #1 for a picture of the wire looms. While cutting looms, be careful not to cut the cables or hydraulic lines.

4. After the looms have been cut, remove all cables and hydraulic lines from the looms. You will need to bend the loom after cutting to get enough clearance for the cables to slide through.

5. Next, using a 6mm allen wrench, remove the 8mm bolts from the handlebars. Using a 17 mm socket, remove the nut on each handlebar one at a time. Lay each handlebar on the towel you have placed on the left and right fairing.

6. Remove the metal wire loom assembly from underneath the top triple-clamp. You will need to remove the top triple-clamp to remove the metal wire loom bracket. Loosen the two top triple-clamp pinch bolts and remove the large steering stem nut. If the triple-clamp does not come off easily, put your weight on the back of the bike while it is on the center stand to lift the front wheel off the ground. This relieves any pressure binding the fork tubes and triple-clamp. Use care during removal to not scratch the bike as the looms are sharp where they have been cut. The bracket will slide out from underneath the triple-clamp. With the black wire loom bracket removed from the top triple-clamp, re-install the triple-clamp. The pinch bolts should be torqued to 12-14 ft. lbs and the steering head nut to 85 ft. lbs.

7. Now install the handlebars one at a time. Place the left handlebar riser in place on the stock triple clamp. Our risers allow you to use the three stock handlebar locations. Insert the 12mm bolt and washer where the stud in the wire loom had been. Please refer to photo #2 Now place the handlebar on top of the riser running the bolt through the handlebar where the stud had been. Place a washer on the 12mm bolt and screw the nylock nut on the bolt to keep it from dropping out through the riser. Now install the 8mm bolt with the washer first on the bottom and hand tighten the lock nut from underneath the triple-clamp. Please refer to photo #3 for a view of the left side riser installed on the triple-clamp.

8. Torque the 12mm bolt and nut to 30 ft. lbs and the 8mm bolt to 12 ft. lbs.

9. Repeat steps 7-8 for the right side handlebar.

10. Install the beauty covers on each handlebar using the stock, small button head cap screws. Do not over-tighten the cap screws.

11. Now start the bike and let it warm up completely. Rotate the handlebars full left and full right. If the motor starts to race, you may need to re-route the throttle cables. To re-route the cables, pull the cables down underneath the brake line and back up between the brake lines and the steering head. The cables should be placed next to the fork tube cap and base of the right handlebar.

Please use the torque settings provided. Over-tightening could compromise the strength and safety of the handlebars. Improper installation voids any warranties and GenMar Mfg. Co., Inc. will assume no Liability for injury or loss of property caused by improper installation of our risers.
